Celebrating the Joy of Reading: Ashwood Glen’s Dr. Seuss Book Week

Inspiring Readers, One Book at a Time

A love of reading is one of the most powerful gifts a child can develop—one that supports learning, imagination, and confidence for years to come. This year, our Book Week celebrations were inspired by the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, engaging students across all grades in activities that sparked creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of books.

The week kicked off with our book fair, giving students the chance to explore a wide range of books and select stories that captured their imagination. Throughout the week, students were immersed in the magic of reading through read-alongs, in-class activities, and interactive discussions that encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression.

Here’s what made the week so special:

  • Our JMS classes took part in a fun reading competition, bringing lots of energy and excitement as they showcased their reading skills.
  • We welcomed a special guest from the Burlington Public Library, who shared information about all the amazing programs and opportunities available for students to explore beyond the classroom.
  • JMS students read aloud to our Casa learners, sharing some of their favourite Dr. Seuss books and bringing stories to life for our youngest readers.
  • Our Dr. Seuss-themed assembly gave students a chance to learn more about his life and celebrate his impact on storytelling and innovation.
  • To wrap up the week, students and staff dressed up as their favourite Dr. Seuss characters, filling the school with colour, creativity, and lots of smiles. An appearance was even made by the Cat in the Hat!

You see, Book Week was more than just fun—it was an opportunity to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. By blending interactive activities, storytelling, and real-world connections, our students experienced how books can spark imagination, curiosity, and meaningful learning. Events like these remind us that literacy is not just about reading—it’s about inspiration, innovation, and artistry. Through reading, we were also connecting with the world around us.
