Building Responsible Digital Citizens: Cyber Awareness Week

Preparing Students for the Digital World and Learning the Foundations of Online Safety

Students are best prepared for the future when they can navigate the digital world with confidence, responsibility, and care. During our recent Cyber Awareness sessions, students in Grades 3–6 took part in engaging, interactive learning experiences designed to strengthen their understanding of online safety and digital citizenship.

Throughout the sessions, students explored key topics such as creating strong and secure passwords, understanding privacy settings, practicing kind and respectful online communication, and knowing what to do if something online doesn’t feel right. Through real-life scenarios and role-play activities, students were encouraged to think critically, make thoughtful decisions, and reflect on their actions in digital spaces.

Developing and Empowering Responsible Digital Citizens

These experiences reflect our approach to learning, as students demonstrate key attributes such as responsibility, balance, and care in their daily interactions. The sessions also supported the development of ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills, especially in the areas of social and self-management, as students practiced communication, empathy, and decision-making.

A special thank you to our teachers for creating meaningful opportunities that empower students to become informed and responsible digital citizens. Their guidance helps ensure that students not only understand how to stay safe online, but also how to contribute positively to the digital communities they are part of.

Families are encouraged to continue these important conversations at home. By working together, we can support our students in building the awareness and confidence they need to navigate the online world safely and thoughtfully.

Learning does not stop outside the classroom—and Cyber Awareness Week is a powerful example of how we at Ashwood Glen prepare our students for the ever-changing, technological world they are growing up in.
