International Education Week at Ashwood Glen Private School

International education week at Ashwood Glen private school was a success! Every January we come together to recognize the value of bringing the world into the classroom and celebrate international work in schools. As an IB Candidate School,  Ashwood Glen, seeks to promote International Mindedness amongst our students and staff.

Our students learned about the culture, language, food, and traditions of different countries around the world. Through their engagement and presentations they learnt about the inter-relatedness of all nations and peoples, their connectedness to the global community, and how we are truly all connected.

The event took place the week of January 24th and toddlers to grade 8 participated. Each class presented to other classes, and the home room teachers supported every student to do the research on their chosen countries by providing guidance and deadlines.

The students were tasked with using their research information to compile a booklet / brochure / flyer / poster, prepare a brief presentation and be prepared to answer any questions from teachers and classmates.

Kenya

Our toddlers learned the names of the fruit in Swahili, smelled Kenyan tea and coffee beans. They also looked at different fabrics with animal prints and guessed the animal.

Brazil

Our casa students learnt about the traditions, language, and dress during carnival in Brazil

Korea

Students in grades 1-3 had a wonderful performance representing Korea!  They had so many details about traditions, dress, and cultural symbolism.

Portugal

Students in grades 6-8 put together a great performance representing Portugal.  They learnt a song in Portuguese, created beautiful artwork, and had a fun interactive presentation.

It was so great to see how engaged and interested all of our students were throughout International Education Week. We’re already looking forward to next year!
